I also recently lost one of my best play-mates (Lucy); she lived with Bruce and his wife (Shelby), and we pretty much 'aged' together. Lucy had quite a rough year; she was wobbling around like I was, and the people who cared for us did their best to make our last months as comfortable as they could.
Lucy and I were both loved by so many; Lucy didn't get to write up any of her recipes like I did, but I bet she had some in her head, that would have been almost as good as mine.
I wanted to say good-bye to all of you who've visited this blog; I trust Grandma Diane will add to it now that I'm an angel with huge wings; learning to fly will now occupy my time, and I'll leave the chili-cooking to the rest of you.
Love, Dexter - departed October 9, 2009.

HAPPY IN NEVADAhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17214341069801731994noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1234183798672072405.post-52011843832986306412008-06-29T17:47:00.000-07:002008-11-12T17:44:51.164-08:00You ain't nothing but a hound dog - crying all the time...
You ain't nothing but a courageous dog; certainly not crying all the time. The BIBLE talks about a lamb laying down with a lion.

I don't think we're quite ready to bunk in with a lion yet, but we are ready to offer some thoughts from the same book Dexter's reading.

There was this rich guy named ROCKEFELLER - he always used SINCERE APPRECIATION when he dealt with his people. Why even when EDWARD T. BEDFORD lost the company millions of dollars by making a bad deal, Mr. Rockfeller only said that things like this happen. Instead of what had been lost, he focused on what Mr. Bedford had accomplished: Mr. Bedford saved the company 60% on overall expenses. In fact, I notice a lot about what their friends act like when they come to visit. There is always a lot of laughter and 'people talk' going on when they have company.

They take me traveling all over the country - each
time we go somewhere, I notice how people act, so I took up reading a bit from
'HOW TO WIN FRIENDS AND INFLUENCE PEOPLE' so I'd know not only how to be a
better dog, but understand those humans too.

I've learned so far, that when dealing with people you are not dealing with creatures of logic, but emotion. Yes, that's from this book I'm reading. More from this book says people have certain prejudices and are motivated by pride and vanity. Hey, I don't think we dogs have any of that going on in us, but then I haven't read any people-written books on dogs yet. I'm guessing people will probably write books about us based upon how they see things - that could be interesting, but for now I want to know more about people.

According to Professor John Dewey (a philosopher),
he says the deepest urge in human nature is the 'desire to be important'. He gave examples of Abraham Lincoln and Charles Dickens as examples since they were poverty-stricken.

I guess the chance to wear the latest styles in clothes; drive the best car, and live in a big fancy house are some of the things that motivate people and make them feel important.

Wow - now that takes a lot of hard work and money to
do all that I'd imagine! Anyway, it goes on to talk about 'heart hunger' - and I see it says that APPRECIATION OF EACH OTHER
satisfies that 'heart hunger'. Hmmmm - I'll keep reading this and putting a few excerpts from this book on my 'blog', when I get over being 'tummy hungry' - right now, I've got to rustle up something from the kitchen....let's see what Lisa made today!

More reading after my walk and my nap.
