Dexter's reading that book about how to WIN FRIENDS AND INFLUENCE PEOPLE - he's right, people don't often use logic - and a lot more emotion.
However, we also have been reading that book - and one called the BIBLE. The BIBLE talks about a lamb laying down with a lion.
I don't think we're quite ready to bunk in with a lion yet, but we are ready to offer some thoughts from the same book Dexter's reading.
There was this rich guy named ROCKEFELLER - he always used SINCERE APPRECIATION when he dealt with his people. Why even when EDWARD T. BEDFORD lost the company millions of dollars by making a bad deal, Mr. Rockfeller only said that things like this happen. Instead of what had been lost, he focused on what Mr. Bedford had accomplished: Mr. Bedford saved the company 60% on overall expenses. Mr. Rockfeller simply said: "We don't always do as well as that upstairs."
I guess upstairs must mean some place in a company where people go when they've succeeded, and are promoted. We lambs prefer to remain on the ground - call it a 'ground-floor opportunity' if you want.
One thing we did learn from that book: CEASE THINKING OF YOUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND YOUR WANTS - SIMPLY FIGURE OUT THE OTHER PERSON'S GOOD POINTS, AND GIVE HIM HONEST AND SINCERE APPRECIATION.
RALPH WALDO EMERSON SAID: 'EVERY MAN I MEET IS MY SUPERIOR IN SOME WAY; IN THAT, I LEARN FROM HIM.'
This sounds like 'good FOOD FOR THOUGHT' - and we hope no one is thinking of lamb-chops.
